EXPANDING CANADA’S BATTERY RECYCLING INFRASTRUCTURE TO SUPPORT THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
In 2022 Call2Recycle continued to expand its infrastructure across Canada, increasing access to battery recycling services while educating more and more Canadians of all ages and regions about the safety and environmental benefits of battery recycling. The program diverted and recycled 4.4 million kilograms of used batteries from Canadian landfills.
Canada’s battery manufacturing sector saw significant growth in 2022, driven by investments in critical mineral mining and process, battery component manufacturing, and Electric Vehicle (EV) production. The battery consumer market also experienced significant shifts with a growing demand for battery recycling linked to the increasing use of portable devices as well as battery-powered e-Mobility vehicles such as e-bikes and e-scooters. In response to these changing market conditions, Call2Recycle ramped up its efforts to expand its collection and recycling network, bolster its operations, and give Canada’s economy an increased battery recycling capacity in the years to come.
