Winnipeg, MB, April 19, 2024 – With baseball season just around the corner, Call2Recycle, Canada’s leading household battery collection and recycling organization, is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the 2024 Baseball Manitoba Rally Cap Program for the second consecutive year. Rally Cap uniforms will feature Call2Reycle’s new consumer brand, “Recycle Your Batteries, Canada!”. Call2Recycle will also have a presence at all 2024 18U, 15U, 13U, and 11U Baseball Manitoba Provincial Championships.
The Rally Cap Program is an initiative designed by Baseball Canada to enhance young players’ first experiences with the game, helping to teach baseball skills in a fun and safe environment. Over three thousand children are expected to participate in the program this year, and almost three thousand players are expected to take part in this year’s Provincial Championships.
The sponsorship is part of an ongoing effort to educate the public about battery recycling, particularly on a community level. Call2Recycle believes youth can play an important role in keeping the environment safe for future generations.
The custom baseball jerseys and battery collection cubes to be distributed this season
As part of the sponsorship, Call2Recycle will be providing each Rally Cap player with a “Recycle Your Batteries, Canada!” branded personal battery collection cube. These collection cubes help encourage adoption of battery recycling habits, by providing a convenient receptacle, and by using the slogan “Collect, Protect, Drop Off” to educate on best practices. The cubes will also be distributed at Provincial Championship events.
Families can safely collect their used batteries in the cube and bring them to one of over 400 convenient “Recycle Your Batteries, Canada!” drop-off locations across Manitoba. These can be found in major retail stores, recycling depots, and public buildings. Drop-off sites can be found at RecycleYourBatteries.ca.
Since 2011, Call2Recycle has operated Manitoba’s provincially-approved battery collection and recycling program. With the help of Manitobans, Call2Recycle has collected and recycled over 1 million kilograms of batteries in the province, diverting them from landfills, protecting the environment, and supporting the circular economy. In 2023, Call2Recycle collected and recycled nearly 206,000 kilograms of batteries in the province — a remarkable 34% increase from the previous year and a record volume in the province.
Used batteries contain toxic materials that can cause ecological harm if they end up in a landfill, so they should never be thrown into the trash or regular blue bins. Recycling your batteries is one way we can help ensure that today’s sluggers will have a safe and clean environment tomorrow.
