About Call2Recycle Canada
Call2Recycle Canada
Call2Recycle Canada, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization—in accordance with the Canadian Not-For Profit Corporations Act and the BC Societies Act.—founded in 1997 to protect and preserve the environment with diversified battery recycling programs for household, e-mobility, and electric vehicle batteries.
The organization operates recycling programs for battery producers, retailers, municipalities and more across the country. From processing standards, collection, and reporting to environmental compliance, close to 400 members help bring our programs to life.
Over 90 percent of people in Canada reside within a 15-kilometer radius of a Call2Recycle drop-off site (over 12,000 locations), which makes battery recycling convenient and easy. Since inception, Call2Recycle programs have recycled over 50 million kilograms of batteries, keeping them out of local landfills and recovering the valuable materials that can be used to create new products.
Call2Recycle meets the highest standards of responsible recycling.
Mission
Leading the charge for recycling™
Call2Recycle is Canada’s leading national consumer battery recycling organization which, on behalf of our Members, safely maximizes the diversion of batteries from landfills through an established and convenient collection network.
Why Call2Recycle Canada?
Regulatory compliance
A number of Canadian provinces have introduced Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations over the past 15 years—giving producers physical and/or financial responsibility for the post-consumer stage of a product’s life cycle—with more jurisdictions planning to do the same in the coming years. Call2Recycle Canada Inc. manages all aspects of EPR end-of-life battery management obligations on behalf of over 400 industry Members nationwide.
Call2Recycle represents its members by managing battery collections and reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with provincial and territorial end-of-life product regulations, while encouraging program harmonization across regulated provinces and territories.
Effective cost management
Call2Recycle prides itself on operating as a cost-effective and transparent program, regularly reporting on operations and financials, and always seeking and implementing efficiencies to maintain best-in-class program for its Members and partners.
Thanks to its national scope, Call2Recycle is able to achieve economies of scale across regulated provinces and territories. All elements of the program are reviewed annually and shared with Members.

Call2Recycle Canada’s annual reports outline the operations and activities the organization has undertaken each year to fulfill and achieve its mandates. They include an updated overview of the program, new and potential recycling initiatives, collection numbers, a member list, and a statement of the organization’s financial position for the year.
2023 Annual Report
A MILESTONE YEAR FOR BATTERY RECYCLING
In 2023, Call2Recycle achieved a new collection milestone by diverting nearly 6 million kilograms of batteries from landfills, pushing Call2Recycle’s total program collections to over 45 million kilograms since its inception. This surge reflects both the growing popularity of batteries and Canadians’ increased commitment to recycling.
To support this increasing volume of batteries collected, Call2Recycle strategically expanded its program infrastructure, implementing cost-effective program management across its operations. The organization added over 2,000 new battery collection sites across Canada, deployed innovative battery pickup services in new regions, and welcomed over 20 new battery transporters, sorters, and processors into its network, achieving a 33% increase in sorting and processing capacity. These efforts not only improved the program’s efficiency but also the program’s environmental footprint.
