At Call2Recycle, our mission is simple but powerful: to build a sustainable future by promoting battery recycling across Canada. This past Fall, we took that mission into three provinces, through the Battery Blitz School Mission, an exciting contest organized twice a year with our amazing partners at Earth Rangers.
The goal? To empower young Canadians to act for the environment by collecting and recycling used batteries. It’s one of the easiest and most impactful ways to protect the environment from harmful materials.
A Movement Fueled by Youth, Guided by Educators
We’re proud to reveal that this contest saw enthusiastic participation from coast to coast with over 100 schools participating in the contest. Thousands of students answered the call, inspired by the leadership of their principals and teachers, who helped turn this mission into a hands-on educational journey. These educators played a critical role in fostering a culture of environmental responsibility, showing students that real-world change begins in their own classrooms and communities.
Together, this collective effort made a measurable difference as about 130,000 kg of batteries have been collected through the contest since its inception in 2015. Kids learned that small actions like battery recycling can have a big impact. And thanks to their incredible energy and dedication, we’re thrilled to recognize the top-performing schools in our Battery Blitz School Mission Contest!
The Winning Schools in British Columbia, Ontario and PEI were:
Province | School | Batteries Collected |
---|---|---|
British Columbia | WL McLeod Elementary | 524 kg |
Ontario | Cliffside Public School | 2,075 kg |
Prince Edward Island | Eliot River Elementary School | 3,237 kg |
These schools went above and beyond, leading the charge in their communities and demonstrating what’s possible when we combine education with action. Congratulations to all the students, educators, and families who helped make this achievement possible.
Building Lifelong Habits for a Healthier Planet
The Battery Blitz isn’t just about numbers; it inspires a mindset shift. When kids understand the importance of battery recycling early on, they’re more likely to develop lasting eco-conscious habits. We’re investing in a cleaner, safer tomorrow by empowering this generation today.
Call2Recycle remains committed to supporting environmental education and battery recycling programs across Canada through its Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program. Together with schools, communities, and partners like Earth Rangers, we believe every battery recycled brings us one step closer to a sustainable future.
Let’s keep the momentum going. Encourage your school to join the movement and participate in our next contest. Learn more by visiting Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! Protect our environment. Inspire change. One student at a time.

About the Battery Blitz Contest
The Battery Blitz contest is a central interactive element of the partnership, which challenges elementary schools across several provinces, including British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Prince Edward Island, to compete within their province to collect the largest volume of used household batteries for recycling. The contest provides students with an engaging way to learn and adopt safe battery recycling habits and instills a sense of connection with the environment while earning prizes to fund educational resources.
