As Canada’s leading battery collection and recycling program, Call2Recycle is proud to work hand-in-hand with thousands of partners across the country to power a greener, more sustainable future. Our success and the growing momentum around battery diversion come from a proven model of stewardship rooted in three key components: consumer awareness, a convenient and accessible collection network, and partner satisfaction. Together, these pillars drive higher diversion rates and keep batteries out of landfills, protecting the environment and contributing to a circular economy.
Consumer Awareness: Turning Knowledge into Action
The journey toward responsible battery disposal starts with education. Canadians are increasingly aware of the environmental importance of proper battery recycling, but awareness alone isn’t enough. To move the needle, programs must engage communities where they live, shop, and work, with clear calls to action and accessible tools for responsible recycling. Through our Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program, at Call2Recycle, we leverage nationwide public education campaigns, community events, and multilingual resources to ensure every Canadian knows not only why to recycle their batteries, but how. According to a recent study, 78% of Canadians are now aware of the fact that they need to recycler their batteries. That’s an excellent first step but we need to move this knowledge into action.

We have been partnering with soccer legend and Canadian Olympic Champion Christine Sinclair to inspire and motivate Canadians to recycle their batteries.
A Convenient, Accessible Collection Network
Awareness must be matched by action, making it as easy as possible for people to recycle. Accessibility is at the heart of a successful stewardship program. A visible and high-quality collection network is critical for batteries, particularly small, often disposable items easily tossed in the trash.
Call2Recycle’s Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program currently operates nearly 15,000 collection locations (and growing!) across Canada. These sites are strategically placed in retail stores, municipal depots, workplaces, and other high-traffic areas to make battery drop-off intuitive and convenient. The result: 89% Canadians live within 15km of a collection site.
But accessibility isn’t just about geography; it’s also about usability. That’s why we focus on designing a turnkey program that’s not just accessible but simple and satisfying to use. Our partners are essential to this experience. Whether operating as a collection site, hosting a collection drive, transporting materials, or educating the public, our collection partners must feel confident that the system works for them and their customers. They must trust us in handling the program with the highest quality and performance.
Partner Satisfaction: The Unsung Driver of Diversion
A stewardship program is only as strong as the partners who power it. That’s why Call2Recycle continuously seeks input from its network to refine processes, streamline operations, and ensure mutual success.
We recently conducted a collection partner survey to better understand how we’re performing and where we can do more. We are thrilled to report that 95% of our collectors said they are satisfied with our Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program.

We were also delighted to see that 86% of our collection partners find our Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program easy to manage, with just over half finding it VERY EASY.

These insights reaffirm that simplicity, visibility, and responsive support are non-negotiable elements of a program people trust – pillars that Call2Recycle is delivering on. Our collectors also affirm that our program elevates their brand profile with 38% of them saying that our Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program has a positive impact on their customers’ impression of their brand.
Call2Recycle is THE Canadian Leader for end-of-life battery management and recycling across diverse formats and sectors because of our high-quality program.
We want to thank our collection partners across Canada for their continued dedication and feedback. Their satisfaction fuels the effectiveness of our network, and ultimately, keeps more batteries out of the waste stream. You can count on us to remain committed to our mission and always seek for improvements.
Looking Ahead
As Canada continues to embrace the circular economy and strengthen its commitment to environmental stewardship, Call2Recycle remains focused on the fundamentals: educating consumers, making recycling simple and accessible, and supporting its partners along every step.
Celebrating these survey results, we also look ahead with optimism and ambition. We welcome new organizations to join our growing network and help us collect even more batteries from coast to coast and maximize diversion rates.
Together, we’re not just recycling batteries, we’re helping build a culture of sustainability that will power a greener future for all.
