Leading the Charge: How Longo’s and Call2Recycle Are Making Battery Recycling More Accessible

March 2025

At Call2Recycle Canada, we believe real change happens when organizations unite with a shared commitment to sustainability. Our partnership with Longo’s is a testament to that belief. As the first grocery retailer in Ontario to introduce a public-facing battery collection program in their stores, Longo’s took a bold step toward making battery recycling more accessible to Ontarians.

Since launching this initiative, Longo’s has demonstrated leadership in environmental sustainability and responsibility. Today, smart collection containers from the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program are in over 40 locations across the Greater Toronto Area, making it easier than ever for customers to responsibly dispose of used batteries while shopping for everyday essentials. Their dedication has yielded impressive results—so far, in 2024 alone, Longo’s stores have collected over 7,000 kg of used batteries, diverting materials from landfills and ensuring they are properly recycled.

This impact goes beyond just numbers. By embracing battery recycling, Longo’s empowers its customers to take small but meaningful actions that contribute to a healthier environment. Their leadership sets an example for other retailers, proving that sustainability and community engagement go hand in hand. Together, we support the local circular economy with Canadians for Canadians.

We are proud to work alongside Longo’s on this important mission. Their trust in Call2Recycle as a partner has enabled us to expand our reach and advance battery recycling efforts in Ontario. Together, we are making a difference—one battery at a time.
