Overview

As part of Call2Recycle’s consumer household battery program—Recycle Your Batteries, Canada!—we offer turnkey e-mobility battery recycling services facilitating the collection and recycling of e-mobility batteries: Rechargeable lithium batteries that power devices like e-bikes, e-scooters, e-skateboards, and hoverboards.

Call2Recycle e-mobility collection partners—such as retailers, municipalities, property managers, and other potential partners—can opt in to become a collector of e-mobility batteries, and will receive specialized UN-rated, pre-paid, pre-addressed, fire-retardant e-mobility battery shipping boxes.

In British Columbia, Call2Recycle also offers a separate and distinct BC e-mobility program that supports the collection and recycling of full e-bikes, including the battery, in that province.

E-Mobility Program Process

1. Batteries are sold at retail

Battery producers remit Environmental Handling Fees to Call2Recycle, which administers the safe collection, transport, and recycling of batteries through the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program.

2. Education & Awareness

Call2Recycle provides resources for public education and awareness to ensure consumers know why, when, and where to recycle their e-mobility batteries through the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program.

3. Return & Collection

Consumers can find an e-mobility battery collection site at Recycle YourBatteries, Canada! to drop off their e-mobility battery for collection and safe recycling.

4. Pre-shipment

Collection partners inspect e-mobility batteries for signs of damage, packs them in a specialized collection kit for safety, and arranges for shipment to the recycling facility.

5. Pickup

  • Specifically-trained carrier partner picks up the Call2Recycle collection kit.
  • Freight fees are covered by the e-mobility battery recycling program.

6. Recycling!

  • Recycling partners weigh the e-mobility battery delivery, reporting the total weight of batteries recycled to Call2Recycle.
  • Materials recovered are used in the manufacturing of new products.
