Members: Battery Producers - Am I Obligated?
Extended Producer Responsibility in Canada
You may fall under Extended producer responsibility (EPR) regulations and obligated to participate in a battery recycling stewardship program if you manufacture, retail (online or offline), distribute, license, or import batteries or products that use batteries in the jurisdictions below.
EPR is an environmental policy approach shifting the responsibility for waste management and environmental sustainability upstream in the product lifecycle to producers (brand owners, manufacturers, etc.) and away from consumers, municipalities, and taxpayers.
In Canada, where EPR regulations exist, all manufacturers, retailers, distributors and other suppliers of certain products must participate under an approved product stewardship plan.
Call2Recycle Canada is a registered Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO), helping obligated battery (or products that contain batteries) producers fulfill their regulatory responsibilities in the provinces and territories listed below.
