Call2Recycle Canada is the premier household battery recycling service provider to organizations, communities, and companies across Canada, aiding in the management of household battery waste, and facilitating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) contributions.

The household battery program collects batteries that weigh up to 5 kg.

From processing standards to collection efforts, from data reporting to environmental compliance, our battery recycling program is built on a reputation of transparency, quality, service excellence, and safety – nothing is compromised.

Call2Recycle is the only battery recycling organization in Canada to be certified with R2v3, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 9001, adhering to the highest standards for battery collection, transportation and recycling safety.

Call2Recycle also exclusively contracts with an ISO 27001-certified supplier for all IT infrastructure management.

Call2Recycle Canada programs all start with the collection partners.

How the program works

1. Batteries are sold at retail

Battery producers remit Environmental Handling Fees to Call2Recycle, which administers the safe collection, transport, and recycling of batteries through the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program.

2. Collection Partner Sign-Up

Businesses sign-up to become collection partners, and are registered for either traditional box, cylinder or bulk collection service.

Collection partners can choose to become a private or public site. Public sites are added to our online locator at Recycle Your Batteries, Canada!

New collection partners receive training materials to prepare to collect batteries.

3. Education & Awareness

Call2Recycle provides resources for public education and awareness to ensure consumers know why, when, and where to recycle their batteries through the Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program.

4. Return & Collection

Consumers can find battery collection sites at Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! to drop off their batteries for collection and safe recycling.

5. Pre-shipment

Collection partners inspect batteries for signs of damage and ensure that terminal protection guidelines are followed.

6. Pickup

When boxes, or barrels are nearly full, collection partners contact Call2Recycle participating courier partners to arrange pick-up.

Fill-sensors in Smart Containers notify Call2Recycle when cylinders are nearly full, and pick-up is arranged automatically.

Specifically-trained carrier partners pick up receptacle and deliver for processing.

All transportation costs are covered by the program.

7. Recycling!

Recycling partners/processors weigh the battery delivery, reporting the total weight of batteries recycled to Call2Recycle.

Batteries are sorted by chemistry and broken down into raw materials.

Materials recovered are used in the manufacturing of new products.

Traditional Box Collection

Tried and true, our traditional box collection service is ideal for small businesses seeking to safely dispose of batteries collected during the course of business operations, or for small businesses and property managers with low collection volume.

Our boxes feature a compact design that reduces counter space requirements, as well as flame retardant liners, and convenient courier pick-up.

Smart Containers

Battery recycling just got smarter.

The first of its kind in North America, our innovative ‘smart’ containers integrate cutting-edge technology to create an intelligent system that simplifies the recycling process for collection sites and consumers while prioritizing safety and accessibility.

Equipped with heat sensors for safety, the smart lid also features a spring-loaded design that enhances sealing, preventing oxygen entry and reducing fire risk.

Fill-sensors automatically notify Call2Recycle when pick-up is required, making battery collection simple and convenient.

Bulk transportation

Bulk Collection

Ideal for municipal waste facilities and businesses with high collection volume exceeding 230 KG, Call2Recycle offers convenient bulk collection.

Sites can use their own large containers, such as drums, or receive Call2Recycle boxes on a pallet to ship back collected materials.

Our online Bulk Shipping Wizard walks you through regulatory requirements of the bulk shipping process and once completed, generates shipping documents. Call2Recycle pays for the shipping to our closest recycling facility.
