Overview

Call2Recycle powers the Recycle Your Vapes program, which facilitates the safe and responsible collection, management, and recycling of battery-powered vapes, e-cigarettes, and their components, including batteries.

As the first program of its kind in Canada, Recycle Your Vapes helps producers meet their Extended Producer Responsibilities (EPR) in Quebec. It also eases the burden on municipalities in safely managing their communities’ vape waste.

The program also offers vape retailers an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to environmental responsibility by offering collection, destruction, and recycling services.

How the program works

1. Vapes are sold to adults in Quebec

Battery and vape producers remit Environmental Handling Fees to Call2Recycle, which administers the safe collection, transport, and recycling of single-use (disposable) and reusable (rechargeable) vapes, e-cigarettes, batteries and other components like pods and cartridges through the Recycle Your Vapes program.

2. Collection Partner Sign-Up

Qualifying Quebec businesses sign up to become vape collection partners.

Collection partners can choose to become a private or public site. Public sites are added to our online locator at Recycle Your Vapes.

3. Education & Awareness

Call2Recycle provides resources for public education and awareness to ensure consumers know why, when, and where to recycle their vapes through the Recycle Your Vapes program.

4. Return & Collection

Adults living in Quebec can find participating vape collection sites at Recycle Your Vapes to drop off their vapes for collection and safe recycling.

Accepted types include:

Disposable (single-use) vapes and e-cigarettes
Reusable (rechargeable) vapes and e-cigarettes
Vape and e-cigarette batteries
Pods
Cartridges

5. Pre-Shipment

Collection partners inspect vapes for signs of damage and ensure that safety guidelines are followed.

6. Pickup

When boxes are nearly full, collection partners schedule a pickup with their assigned Call2Recycle-approved courier partner.

All transportation costs are covered by the program.

7. Recycling!

Call2Recycle’s sorting/recycling partners weigh the box contents, reporting the total weight of vapes and their components to Call2Recycle.

Vapes and components are sorted and broken down into raw materials.

Materials recovered are used in the manufacturing of new products.
