Programs by Province or Territory

Battery recycling has never been so easy

Call2Recycle Canada provides national turnkey recycling programs for Members to fulfill obligations and manage regulatory complexities in a streamlined manner allowing obligated producers to operate in compliance with formal provincial and territorial battery regulations.

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations shift the responsibility for waste management and environmental sustainability to producers. In Canada, where regulations are in place, manufacturers, retailers, distributors and other suppliers of certain products must participate in an approved program.

Are you an obligated producer?

Call2Recycle is here to help.

We have approved programs in British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia for household/consumer batteries. In Ontario, Call2Recycle is a registered Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO), under the Ontario Battery Regulation. If you are obligated under the regulations in one of these jurisdictions, sign up to one of Call2Recycle’s programs today.

As part of the Province’s efforts to expand the extended producer responsibility (EPR) program, starting July 1, 2024, Call2Recycle will operate a new government-approved consumer battery collection and recycling program per the
Solid Waste-Resource Management Regulations in the province.

The program will be funded by Environmental Handling Fees (EHFs) applied to single-use and rechargeable household batteries weighing under five kilograms, beginning July 1, 2024. Aligned with other regulated provinces, EHFs transparently cover the cost of safely collecting, transporting, and recycling used batteries so their materials can be reclaimed to use in the manufacturing of new products like bicycles, golf clubs, construction materials, and even new batteries.
