Montréal (Québec), September 10, 2026 – Call2Recycle, Canada’s leading battery collection and recycling organization, and AISEN, a Québec-based clean technology company developing innovative rechargeable battery solutions, today announced a new collaboration aimed at advancing circular approaches to battery use, reuse and end-of-life management.
The organizations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishing a framework to explore innovative rechargeable battery technologies and their potential environmental benefits, while considering how reuse and responsible recycling can work together as part of a more circular battery ecosystem.
The collaboration also reflects Call2Recycle’s commitment to supporting innovation within Québec’s growing circular economy ecosystem. As Call2Recycle continues to expand and evolve its programs in the province, the organization is seeking opportunities to collaborate with Québec-based organizations developing solutions that complement strong collection and recycling systems and contribute to Québec’s environmental and circular economy objectives.
AISEN is working to reduce reliance on single-use batteries through a circular service model that combines rechargeable nickel-zinc battery technology with automated dispensing, collection and lifecycle data. The company already works with more than 20 customers and has undertaken pilot initiatives with organizations including the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), Loto-Québec and the City of Montréal. Its approach has also received support from RECYC-QUÉBEC and Sennheiser.

The collaboration comes as governments, industry and stewardship organizations increasingly consider how reuse can complement recycling within circular economy and extended producer responsibility frameworks. By bringing together AISEN’s expertise in rechargeable battery technology and service models with Call2Recycle’s experience in battery stewardship and circular economy programs, the organizations will explore opportunities to better understand and demonstrate the environmental benefits of rechargeable and reuse-focused solutions.

The collaboration may include evaluating rechargeable battery technologies and environmental performance, exploring methodologies for measuring greenhouse gas reductions and other environmental benefits, sharing technical and operational expertise, and identifying opportunities for future pilots, demonstrations and public awareness initiatives.
Call2Recycle has a long history of working collaboratively with governments, regulators, municipalities, retailers, producers and other organizations to make responsible battery management increasingly accessible and effective. In Québec, Call2Recycle works closely with RECYC-QUÉBEC in support of the province’s evolving battery recovery framework and broader circular economy objectives.
Through collaborations such as this one with AISEN, Call2Recycle is seeking to strengthen connections between established stewardship infrastructure and emerging Québec innovation, helping promising solutions develop locally while exploring how they can contribute to a more circular approach to battery management across Canada.
