All collection partners are encouraged to take the following essential training to learn how to safely collect, handle and prepare used household batteries for shipment. Topics covered during training include:

  • How to safely collect and handle batteries
  • What to do with damaged batteries
  • How to safely store used batteries
  • What containers are acceptable for shipping batteries
  • How to prepare containers for shipment
  • How to avoid potential safety incidents during transport
  • How to ensure a safe environment for both staff and customers.

As collection volumes continue to increase across all battery types – particularly lithium-ion – it is increasingly important to ensure they are handled, stored, and shipped safely.
